Check your resume.
Count your awards.
List your accomplishments.
Now imagine you're gone.
Really gone.
Your LinkedIn profile deleted, your business cards thrown away, your office cleared out.
What remains?
Not the title you held.
Not the salary you earned.
Not the corner office or the parking spot with your name on it.
What remains are the lives you touched.
The problems you solved.
The kindness you showed.
The example you set.
The difference between achievement and legacy is simple: achievements are about you.
Legacy is about everyone else.
"Death smiles at us all, but all a man can do is smile back." — Marcus Aurelius
We spend most of our lives chasing achievements.
The promotion. The recognition. The award.
The big win that will finally prove our worth.
But achievements are temporary.
They live in the moment, then fade into history.
Most are forgotten within a generation.
Legacy is different.
Legacy ripples outward. It multiplies. It becomes part of other people's stories long after you've left the scene.
The teacher who believed in a struggling student.
